Rutherford FC Return to Play

Rutherford FC has consulted COVID-19 guidelines set forth by the CDC, US Soccer, NJ Youth Soccer, Rutherford Schools and more to develop our Return to Play guidelines.
If you are not comfortable with returning to play, then Don’t.

If your child or family members have underlying health conditions or are immunocompromised, please consult with your medical professional to make the best decision for your child and family’s health and wellness.

We do not want to give anyone a false sense of security that our guidelines can eliminate risk from COVID-19 – the guidelines are a mitigation plan only.

The knowledge of and circumstances around COVID-19 are constantly changing.  Every case of the disease is potentially life-altering or deadly, particularly in those with risk factors that may occur within our communities.  Health consequences may be long-standing and only apparent weeks after initial infection and recovery.

We respect that you must make the best decision for you and your family.  With that said, our guidelines and protocols are designed as part of our Club’s best efforts to create as safe an environment as we can amidst a global pandemic so that as many children who want to play can do so.

Rutherford FC – Return to Play

Each of us – Players, Parents, Coaches and the Club – have responsibilities to meet under our return-to-play guidelines.  Though we may find some of them inconvenient, following these safety measures is our best method for ensuring that our children will continue to be able to play during a pandemic.  Please review these and direct any questions or concerns to the Board at [email protected]

Player Responsibilities

•      Wear face covering to and from the field and follow coach and trainer’s directions on social distancing and masking during practice and games

•      Sanitize hands at the beginning and end of practice

•      Make sure your name is on your water bottles and equipment

•      Do not share water, food or equipment with other teammates

•      No spitting will be allowed on the field, sidelines, or anywhere else

•      No hand contact of any kind will be permitted (i.e. handshakes, ‘high fives,’ etc.)

•      Everyone should cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing (recommend covering mouth with the nape of the elbow)

•      Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with hands

•      Let your parent know if you are feeling feverish, have chills, shortness of breath, cough, runny nose, sore throat, severe headache or unusual muscle aches, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell

•      Do not attend practice or games if you are feeling sick, have COVID-19 symptoms or have had close contact with a person known to have COVID-19.

Parent Responsibilities

•      Rutherford FC will utilize the home screening checklist as set for by the Rutherford School District (with one modification – Close Contact is defined as being within 6 feet for at least ten minutes or more).  Print out the Rutherford Schools Daily Home Screening for Students (below) and complete it before each practice and game.  If you answer YES to any of these questions, you should contact your coach and Rutherford FC’s COVID Point of Contact, Carol Hsu ([email protected] or 917-533-7815) and receive guidance before allowing your child to attend a practice or game.

o   To complete the Screening, you must perform a temperature check sometime during the day before each practice and game.  You must keep your child home if the temperature is above 100.4 (without any fever-reducing medication) and inform the coach.

•      Ensure child has plenty of water and that all water bottles and other equipment are labeled with child’s name

•      Adhere to proper physical distancing and face covering going to and from field and as a spectator at the field when unable to maintain physical distancing

•      Face coverings must also be worn when travelling through common areas

•      Spectators and supporters should be located on the same side of field as the team (at least on Rutherford home fields) they support to reduce interaction between competing teams and their supporters

•      Avoid carpooling; if carpooling between non-same member households is absolutely necessary, then do so only with car windows open and masks worn.

•      Please alert the Board of Rutherford FC – [email protected] -  if you feel that guidelines are not being followed so the Club can help ensure that we maintain and/or improve our safety standards

•      Bring personal hand sanitizer and wipes to games

•      Follow directional signage entrances and exits to the facility and at the fields to maintain proper social distancing

•      Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with their hands whenever possible

•      Everyone is expected to cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing (recommended into the nape of the elbow).

•      Do not attend practice or games if you are feeling sick, have COVID-19 symptoms or have had close contact with a person known to have COVID-19.

Coach Responsibilities

•      Create an arrival process before practices and games that allows for social distancing (placing cones six feet apart for each player’s belongings) and routine for sanitizing.

•      Wear face covering to and from the field and when not socially distanced from players and others on the field.  Wear face covering when addressing players in close proximity.
